Description
HINDLEY ATHERTON ROAD SD 60 SW (south side) 10/78 No. 370 (Hindley House) (formerly listed 8.8.66 as Hindley House) - II House. C18 with later alterations. Stucco with slate roof, 2 storeys, 4 bays, the 4th bay is wider than the others. Top fluted frieze and dentilled cornice. Ground floor has canted bay window with frieze and bracketed cornice, casements; window to 4th bay is sashed with glazing bars. 1st floor windows have casements, that to 3rd bay has panelled pilasters, frieze and consoled cornice. Entrance to 3rd bay has elliptical head, moulded jambs and archivolt; doorcase has Doric columns and fanlight with glazing bars; 8-fielded- panel door, the lowest panels flush; glazed side panels. Interor: hall has modillion cornice. Staircase has turned balusters and C19 turned newels. Some 6-fielded-panel doors. Room to 4th bay has higher ceiling than rest of ground floor; has tall panelling over elaborate chair rail; cornice; 8-panel door with Doric doorcase and fireplace with pediment over and flanking Corinthian columns.
