Description
Higher Barn Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has slate roofs. The building is two storeys high and features two gabled bays, with lean-to additions on the returns. Most windows are casements, but the second bay on the ground floor has a three-light horizontally sliding sash with fixed upper lights. The second bay on the first floor has a five-light double chamfered mullioned window with a label mould, and there is a blocked attic window also with a label mould. Remnants of label moulds to the left of the second bay suggest that the first bay is a later addition. There are plain entrances to the second bay and a segmental-headed entrance to the left lean-to extension. The first bay has a lateral stack, while the second bay features a cross-axial stack. Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered beams, a staircase with a close string and closed-in balusters, some three-panel doors, and an eight-panel door on the first floor.
