Description

The Elms is a mid-18th century house. It is constructed of brick with a graduated slate roof. The original two-storey section projects to the front on the right and to the rear on the left, and has a hipped roof. Additional bays were added in the late 18th century and the 19th century on the right-hand side, along with a 20th-century, flat-roofed extension to the rear and a 20th-century porch. The house has a stone plinth, a moulded timber eaves cornice, and a brick parapet. There are six bays in total, each featuring a sash window on both floors, with cambered brick arches and stone sills. The window in the second bay is accompanied by a 20th-century porch featuring a stone surround. Bay six, dating from the 19th century, has a six-panel door with a decorated fanlight. Inside, the house contains three fireplaces in the Adam style, and one exposed chamfered timber beam.
