Description
Downs Place is a terrace of four houses built in 1839, as indicated by a datestone. The houses are constructed using a Flemish bond brick pattern with a slate roof. They are arranged with a central-staircase plan over two storeys, except for number 58, which is reduced to a single room width. Each house originally had a four, six, or eight-panel front door, topped with a fanlight. Numbers 62 and 58 retain moulded surrounds to their doors. The fanlight above number 60's door has been blocked, while numbers 56 and 58 still have cast iron bars within their fanlights. Each house has four windows, except for number 58, which has two. The lower window of number 58 is a 20th-century bay window, and the upper a 20-pane sash window. The other windows have cambered brick arches, stone sills, and 16-pane sashes. Dormer windows have been added to the roofs of numbers 58 and 60.
