Description
Home Farm features a quadrangle of farm buildings constructed in 1822. The buildings are made of Flemish stretcher bond brick and topped with graduated slate roofs. This two-storey complex includes a barn to the south, cow shelters to the east with haylofts and storage above, and cow sheds/storage to the north and west, also with haylofts and storage above.
From within the quadrangle, the barn displays cart entries on the left and right, which are now blocked, along with honeycombed vents, pitching eyes, and a door on the first floor. The cow shelter is notable for its arcade of ten segmental brick keystone arches supported by heavy stone columns, some of which have been recast in concrete. Above every other arch, there is a pitching eye, and at the center, a projecting gabled bay features doors on each floor and a semi-elliptical keystone arch above.
The other two sides of the quadrangle have a stone flag plinth, multiple stable doors, and casement window openings, all adorned with cambered brick arches and pitching eyes. Additionally, there is a driftway on both the west and east sides, and a dovecote located in the center of the quadrangle.
