Description
Barracks Farmhouse and Cottage is a building that has been converted from a farmhouse into two cottages. It features a datestone marked "S.W.E. 1714" and has later additions. The structure is made of English garden wall bond brick with a graduated slate roof. It is a three-unit, baffle-entry, two-storey house with an additional unit added to the left when the eaves were raised during its conversion to cottages. There is also a later lean-to on the right and at the rear. The building has four three-light casement windows on each floor, each with cambered brick arches. A later trelliswork porch is located in the third bay, with the datestone positioned above it. The farmhouse has three ridge chimney stacks. The rear of the building retains a two-light casement fire window, although it is largely obscured by lean-tos. Inside, the house part features a sphere, ovolo-moulded bressumer beam over the inglenook fireplace, as well as ovolo-moulded floor beams with run-out stops. The original left-hand unit has a similar beam and there are boarded doors throughout.
