Description
Queen Anne Cottage, along with a cottage to the rear, is a farmhouse that has been converted into two cottages. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with some alterations made around 1910. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. It stands two storeys high with a cellar and features five bays, along with a rear wing of four bays on the left, which forms a separate dwelling.
Inside, there is a central stair hall flanked by reception rooms, with a kitchen located at the rear. The entrance features a glazed door set in a bolection moulded stone doorcase, which is partially obscured by a 19th-century porch made of brick and stone tiles, designed to resemble paired demi-columns supporting a round arch. The exterior includes a stone water sill, a string course, and flush stone quoins. The building has stone cross mullioned windows on both floors and on the right return gable, although some have been altered; the end windows are blocked, the center windows have had their transoms removed, and paned glazing has been inserted. The ground floor windows have been completely altered in the 20th century, and there are two blocked stone-mullioned cellar windows. The roof is hipped with minimal eaves. The rear wing was added in the mid-20th century and features a glazed door with a canopy and metal windows. There are six iron disc terminals for tie bars. Inside, there is a deep chamfered spine beam in the right room and a cross beam in the left room, with roof trusses that are irregularly spaced.
