Description
Larkrise comprises two houses, Nos. 18 and 20, located on the south side of The Village, now understood to be in Flixton. The building incorporates a 17th-century timber-framed structure with later brick additions from the late 18th century. The front of the building sits on a stone plinth and has brick additions to both the left and right sides, as well as above the original timber-frame. The roof is slate covered. The original timber-frame section is three panels high, featuring diagonal bracing to the main posts. An original studded oak door is on the left and a more recent door has been inserted on the right. Later additions include three-light windows. To the left and right of the original timber-frame are one-bay Flemish bond brick additions, with cambered brick arches over replaced casement windows. The eaves were also raised with brickwork and incorporate two casement windows. Ridge chimney stacks are present. The rear elevation is similar, though some timber members have been replaced or rendered over. Inside, the house opens into an inglenook fireplace with a chamfered curved bressumer beam, a wattle and daub heck with a chamfered heck post. Chamfered floor beams are also present, some of which are 20th-century replacements. The roof structure includes tie-beam trusses with inclined struts. A carved inscription "IFW1672" is visible on a timber rail.
