Description

This is a farmhouse, dating from 1713 as indicated by a datestone. It is constructed of rendered brick with a roof of graduated stone slates. The building follows a double-depth, central-staircase plan and has two storeys, with a two-storey porch. The symmetrical front elevation is characterised by a band running across the first floor. The central doorway, dated 1717 on a decorative back plate, is from the former Davyhulme Hall and is now in the outer opening with a segmental-arched light above. It originally served as an inner door to an open porch. Four cross-casement windows are present on each floor. The chimney stacks have three diagonally set shafts in brick. A stair window is located at the rear. Inside, the main (right) room retains ovolo-moulded beams, and the dogleg staircase features a deep rail and turned balusters, which have been boarded over.
