Description

Tonge Green House and The Cottage are a house and cottage of 1782, bearing the inscription "THH 1782" on the door lintel. The house is constructed of hammer-dressed watershot stone with a slate roof, some sections of which are graduated stone slates. It follows a double-depth central-staircase plan with two storeys. The Cottage is a single-bay, double-depth structure with a gable-porch. The main house features a projecting plinth and a central four-panel door within a square-cut surround. It has triple-sash windows on the ground floor, with stone sills and lintels, and two three-light first-floor windows with flat-faced stone mullions. The Cottage has a blank wall to the front, with its windows and gable-porch facing outwards. The house has a total of two triple-sash windows and a single three-light flat-faced mullion attic window. Two ridge chimney stacks are present, featuring oversailing courses and water tabling. Mullion windows, both two-light and three-light, are found at the rear.
