Description

The gateway to the Parish Church of St Mary, along with the wall and fountain to the side, was built in 1812 by Lewis Wyatt. It is made of stone and features an elaborate Gothic screen with three pointed archways, topped with crocketed finials above the central arch. The ashlar wall facing Millgate includes a granite drinking fountain, which is dated 1858 and has two moulded stone steps below it. The church, gate, and wall create a visual group with the nearby properties in the Market Place.
