Description
Nos 23 and 25 on Little Underbank are early 19th-century buildings that have undergone mid to late 19th-century alterations. They stand three storeys tall, with a rendered and carved stone exterior, and feature a rebuilt parapet that conceals a slate roof. The facade includes five recessed blank panels with dentils below the parapet and five windows in shaped surrounds, although the glazing is modern.
Notable architectural features include three round-headed niches that house colorful figures: a guardsman and a sailor on the sides, and Father Time with wings in the center on the top storey. Each figure is positioned below bells under pediments, which they ring in unison with a shop clock that projects from the first floor. The ground floor has a shop front from the same period, complete with a glazed fascia displaying the shop name, alongside a modern inserted shop front to the right.
Nos 23 and 25 are part of a group with No 31 Great Underbank and contribute to the local architectural interest, alongside Nos 1 to 25 (odd) and the premises occupied by Hobson Smith, as well as the bridge over Little Underbank.
