Description
Bank Chambers is a former bank building constructed in 1868 by Thomas H Allen for the Bank of Stockport. It is built from brick with ashlar dressings and features a ground floor. The building stands three storeys tall and is designed in a classical palazzo style. It has a moulded stone cornice and bands, with an attached column at the angle of the building. There are a total of five windows on the upper floors, with the four inner windows featuring shaped heads and segmental arches, while the outer windows, set in channelled pilasters, have shaped heads and round arches. The ground floor includes two doorways with rounded arches, keystones, and blocked fanlights; the left doorway is flanked by granite columns. Additionally, there are four round-arched windows on the ground floor and three windows on the Market Place elevation. The building is set on a battered plinth. The Bank of Stockport was acquired by the Manchester and County Bank in 1872.
