Description
Chadkirk Chapel is a 16th-century chapel that is now no longer in use. The south walls were rebuilt in 1747, along with various other alterations and restorations. The chapel features a timber frame with a stone slate roof, although most of the walls have been rebuilt in dressed stone. The nave and chancel share a continuous roof ridgeline and are supported by a projecting plinth and stone quoins.
The three-bay nave includes doors in the first and third bays, each with rusticated keystone surrounds. There are semi-circular-headed windows in the second and third bays, complete with stone surrounds, impost blocks, and keystones. A gabled dormer window in the first bay has a two-light casement window. The west bell-cote is made of timber, topped with a pyramidal roof and a weather-vane. The north and east chancel walls display 16th-century close-studded timber framing, featuring a stone plinth and a mid-rail. The south window mirrors the nave windows, while the east window has a semi-circular head. The north nave contains three mullioned windows, with two and three lights.
Inside, there are four 16th-century roof trusses, including three inclined queen-post trusses and one vertically studded truss at the chancel end, which retains an angle brace. The purlins are supported by curved wind bracing and C20 rafters. Additionally, there is an 18th-century baluster-type font.
