Description
Hatherlow House is a house, said to have formerly been a public house, dating from the mid-18th century with a later added wing. It is constructed of brick, now painted, with tile-hanging on the side and rear and a stone slate roof. The building has a double-depth central-staircase plan, featuring two storeys, a lean-to at the rear, and a projecting semi-octagonal wing on the right that was added later.
The house has three bays plus one additional bay. The second bay is slightly advanced and features a six-panel door flanked by side pilasters, a segmental interlaced fanlight, and a keystone. The windows consist of two on the ground floor and three on the first floor, all with stone sills, flat brick arches with keystones, and tripartite sash windows, except for the central first-floor window, which has a 20-pane sash. The outer first-floor windows have 20th-century casements but remain in their original openings. The building is topped with a modillion eaves cornice and has 19th-century gable stacks. The rear of the house has similar window features. The added wing has six sash windows and a pyramidal roof.
