Description

Bredbury House is an early 19th-century house, now operating as funeral directors, situated on Higher Bents Lane in Wereth, along with an adjoining cottage. The house is constructed of coursed rubble with a graduated stone slate roof and brick stacks. It follows a double-depth central-staircase plan, comprising three bays and two storeys, plus an attic. A central 20th-century six-panel door is topped by a fanlight with a Roman Ionic pediment, columns, and an enriched frieze. The front facade features two ground-floor and three first-floor windows, each with wedge lintels and sills, and 12-pane casements that were replaced in the 20th century. Gable stacks are present. The left-hand gable has five windows, three of which are blocked. An arched stair window is visible at the rear. The adjoining cottage, which is rendered, is of a later date and features a later porch and sash windows on each floor.
