Description
No. 2 Shepley Lane is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from 1660 as indicated by the datestone in the gable. It is constructed of irregularly coursed rubble with stone dressings and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building has a T-shaped plan with two bays, two storeys, and lean-tos against the rear and right gables. The entrance porch has been altered but retains a coped gable with kneelers. There are two-light casement windows on either side of the porch and two 3-light casement gabled dormer windows above. The exterior includes stone quoins, gable stacks, and coped gables, with some kneelers featuring ornate finials. The rear wing is similarly detailed and has another gabled dormer window, a door with a stone lintel, and matching window openings. Inside, there are timber-framed partitions, chamfered beams, and some oak panelling that originated from Marple Hall.
