Description
The lychgate to the Church of All Saints is a memorial structure built in memory of James Benton, who died on September 27th, 1893. It is constructed from dressed sandstone with red sandstone ashlar dressings, featuring a timber frame and a clay tile roof. The lychgate has tall weathered dwarf walls, although the gates are missing. Four posts rise from a sole plate to support the tie beams and wall plates, which are braced with curved diagonal members. The tie beams of the two king-post trusses are cambered and inscribed. The eaves and verges overhang, and the ridge is adorned with small terminating finials. This structure is included for its group value.
