Description
Old Hall Farmhouse is a house built in the 1790s by Samuel Oldknow, originally intended as housing for mill apprentices and as his main farm. The building is constructed from dressed stone and features graduated stone slate and slate roofs. It has a three-bay by three-bay layout with three storeys, along with a two-storey canted wing at the rear.
The facade includes a projecting plinth and continuous sill bands on the first and second floors. A flat canopy supported by columns covers the central six-panel door, which is flanked by side panels and topped with a semi-elliptical radial fanlight. The ground floor has two windows, while the first floor features three windows, all equipped with 16-pane sash windows and square-cut surrounds. The second floor has three windows as well, but these have nine panes. The roof is hipped with a double ridge and is adorned with four large chimney stacks.
On the sides of the building, there are two windows on the left side and three on the right side for each floor. The two-bay by three-bay rear wing, which is now a separate house, has lunettes on the angled walls and porches on either side.
