Description
Leighton House and Moor End are a pair of large semi-detached houses built around 1857. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with ashlar sandstone dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The houses feature paired symmetrical facades, although their returns differ.
The exterior consists of two storeys with cellars and attics. Each house has a three-window range with a central entrance. There is a projecting porch supported by paired Doric columns, which are linked by balustrading (now missing in No. 463). The entrances have part-glazed doors with overlights and architraves. The outer bays are set forward and each has a pedimented gable above. The ground floor has tripartite sash windows, framed by stone pilasters and an entablature. Above, there are 4-pane sash windows set in moulded stone architraves, with the central window placed in a recessed panel. A continuous stone sill-band runs across the façade, and a moulded eaves cornice extends around the pedimented gables.
The return elevation of No. 463 features two bays, with a pedimented gable on the left that has a similar pattern of fenestration to the main elevation, along with a small window in the tympanum. The right-hand bay has a 4-pane sash window on each floor. The return elevation of No. 465 includes a three-storeyed, three-window range wing that is set forward to the right, featuring a central canted bay window. The houses have end and axial stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
