Description

Higher Slack Farmhouse and the adjoining barn are located on Stoney Lane in Saddleworth. The farmhouse dates back to 1740, as indicated by the inscription "RWAW 1740" (Robert Whitehead) on the door lintel. It is constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building consists of two bays and two storeys, with the barn situated to the left.

The first bay is single-depth and includes a door on the right with a chamfered surround, a ground floor window with four lights and a double-chamfered cavetto-moulded mullion, and a first floor window with six lights that has a recessed flat face. The second bay, which predates 1740, is double-depth and features five and six-light chamfered windows, with the ground floor windows being double-chamfered and cavetto-moulded. The farmhouse has gable chimney stacks and two and three-light windows on the gables and rear. Inside, there is a fire surround with a corbelled mantel and cornice. The front of the barn has been rebuilt.
