Description

Delph Slack Farmhouse and the adjoining barn is a Grade II listed building that dates back to 1745, as indicated by the inscription "1745 RWAW" (Robert and Ann Whitehead) on the door lintel, although it has undergone later additions and alterations. The structure is built from hammer-dressed watershot stone and features a graduated stone slate roof.

The farmhouse is a single-depth range that totals five bays and stands two storeys high, with the barn located to the left and a later range added to the rear. In the first bay, there is a door to the left (now a window) with a dressed surround, accompanied by a 4-light recessed flat-faced ground floor mullion window and a 7-light window on the first floor. The second, third, and fourth bays represent the earlier part of the building, with bay 2 featuring altered window openings fitted with 20th-century casements. Bays 3 and 4 have 4-light and 2-light double-chamfered cavetto-moulded mullion ground floor windows, a similar 3-light window on the first floor, and later 3-light and 2-light windows. Bay 5 includes a 2-light and a 3-light window.

The former gable entrance, which has the dated lintel, is obscured by an 18th-century addition. The building also has ridge chimney stacks and features 3, 4, and 7-light recessed flat-faced mullion windows at the rear. The barn includes a cart entry and a shippon door.
