Description

Hilltop House and adjoining cottages date from the mid-18th century, with 19th-century additions. The house is constructed of hammer-dressed watershot stone with a graduated stone slate roof. It is a double-depth house with two bays and two storeys plus an attic. Quoins and an eaves cornice are present. A 20th-century porch now obscures the original dressed door surround. The windows are three-light, with recessed cavetto-moulded mullions. Coped gable and gable chimney stacks are visible. The 18th-century house’s attic level is visible on the gable-ends, which feature several one-light, two-light, and three-light mullion windows to the upper floor levels. One of these windows appears to be of 17th-century date, while some are blocked. A blocked-up taking-in door is also present. One of the cottages has a lintel dated 1868.
