Description
This is a wool wall located in Dobcross, Saddleworth, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from rubble sandstone masonry in a drystone style. The wall is approximately 50 metres long and 1.7 metres high, running in a north-west to south-east direction. Its north-east face is nearly vertical, while the south-west face is sloping and stepped. The coping stones are unshaped and laid on edge. Wool walls were typically used in the domestic production of woollen cloth, serving the purpose of drying scoured or dyed wool and scoured cloth.
