Description
New Barn is a building that likely started as houses, but is now divided into six cottages. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a graduated stone slate roof. The building has a two-by-two bay layout and stands three storeys high. The gabled north elevation features three semi-circular-headed doors, with the central door blocked, and each door has a fanlight and dressed surrounds with keystones. The corners of the building are accentuated with quoins. On the upper floors, there are flat-faced stone mullion windows, with configurations of four and two lights, and an owl hole in the gable. Each side of the building has a total of five windows, which vary in light configurations of four, six, seven, or eight lights. The rear of the building has a stepped approach leading to a second-floor door, flanked by six-light windows similar to those on the upper floors, while the first-floor windows are blocked. The building also features ridge and gable chimney stacks.
