Description

Grotton Head Farmhouse and the adjoining barn date back to the 19th century. The farmhouse features hammer-dressed stone with a graduated stone slate roof, while the barn has a slate roof. The house is designed with a double-depth central staircase plan and has two storeys. The barn is attached to the left side of the house and includes opposed cart entries, a shippon on the left, and a 20th-century addition on the right.

The central door of the farmhouse has a re-used lintel dated "MBIB 1656" with a chamfered surround and a fanlight. On either side of the door, there are three-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion windows, along with a central one-light window on the first floor. The gables are coped, and there are gable chimney stacks.

At the rear of the house, there are two 2-light double-chamfered stone mullion windows, one of which is missing a mullion, suggesting that the building may have been reused or remodeled from an earlier structure. The barn features stone quoins, a projecting plinth, and outshuts on either side of the cart entry. There are two doors on the left gable, one of which is blocked, both having chamfered surrounds and a dated lintel. The rear of the barn includes vents on three levels and a blocked cart entry with chamfered dressings. The barn has a 20th-century roof construction.
