Description
The Ashton Canal Towpath Bridge, located over the junction with the Islington Branch Canal west of Lock Number 2, dates from around 1800 and has been altered. It is constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond, featuring sandstone dressings. The bridge has an elliptical arch with a keystone and a stone band, along with a parapet that has rounded stone coping, which curves outward at the ends and meets the ground. The deck is cobbled. This bridge is part of a group that includes the Lock-keeper's cottage to the east and Lock Number 2 beyond that.
