Description

This warehouse dates from approximately 1890 to 1910. It is constructed of red brick with sandstone dressings, and has a long, rectangular plan running parallel to the street. The building is three storeys high, with a basement, and has 32 bays, including a six-bay office range at the right-hand end.

The office range features a sill band and a moulded stone cornice above the ground floor windows, which extends around the west return wall. A large, round-headed doorway with a stone architrave is centrally positioned in the third bay. Upper floors have plain pilasters and large, square-headed windows. Ground floor windows contain coupled sashes with small-paned overlights, whilst those above have nine-pane glazing. The west return wall of the office range features tiered canted oriels on the first and second floors, supported by large stone corbels beside the ground floor windows. Otherwise, the fenestration is similar, except that the second floor has square 12-pane windows. The main warehouse range to the left has segmental-headed windows. The building has a plain parapet with stone coping, and no chimneys are visible.

The warehouse is part of a group that includes Vulcan Works and other industrial and commercial buildings along Pollard Street, and is included in the listing for group value.
