Description

Milford House is an earlier 19th-century town house, later used as offices. It is situated in Ardwick Green North, Manchester, and forms a group with the attached property at No.27. The house is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and a hipped slate roof. It has a double-depth, single-fronted plan with a rear extension.

The building is three storeys high, with a basement, and features three windows facing the street. A stone plinth and a wooden modillioned eaves cornice are prominent features. A segmental-headed doorway, accessed by five steps, is on the left side; it includes a doorcase with engaged Ionic columns, an entablature, a panelled door, and a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. To the right of the doorway are two sashed windows without glazing bars, set within segmental-headed blank arches. The upper floors each have three sashed windows, with the first-floor windows lacking glazing bars and the second-floor windows having four panes. All windows incorporate raised sills and flat-arched heads constructed of gauged brick. A gable chimney stack is located on the right side. The interior has not been inspected.
