Description

The war memorial to the Lancashire Fusiliers, located in Gallipoli Gardens, is made of Portland stone and features a tapered obelisk that stands approximately 4 meters tall, with an overall height of 6.9 meters. It has a square base with a moulded cornice and is set upon a rectangular pedestal that has convex ends, which also includes a carved frieze and a moulded cornice at the top. The entire structure is elevated on two shallow circular steps.

The front and rear faces of the obelisk display carvings of the regimental badge and the inscription "XX" in gilded lettering, surrounded by a wreath. Beneath the wreath on the west side of the obelisk is the inscription "OMNIA AUDAX." Flanking the obelisk are life-sized representations of regimental flags made from painted stone; the flag on the north side represents the King's Colour, while the flag on the south side represents the 1st Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers' Colour.

Inscriptions on the lower part of the memorial are found on the west face in gilded lettering. These include "MCM / XIV/ +/ MCM/ XIX" on the base of the obelisk, "TO THE/ LANCASHIRE FUSILIERS / THEIR/ DEEDS AND SACRIFICES/ FOR/ KING AND COUNTRY" on the upper part of the pedestal, "MCMXXXIX/ +/ MCMXLV" on the lower part of the pedestal, and "AND ALL FUSILIERS WHO DIED/ IN SUBSEQUENT CAMPAIGNS" on the plinth.
