Description

The Church of Saint Marie is a Catholic church built in 1841 by J Harper of York, designed in a perpendicular style. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a rectangular, aisle-less layout. The west gable front is elaborate, featuring a battlemented porch and a five-light window that is deeply recessed and flanked by buttresses. Above the gable, there is an octagonal lantern tower with traceried openings and an enriched battlemented parapet, reminiscent of St Helen's in York. The sides of the church have two-light windows, and there is possibly original stained glass at the east end.
