Description

The Athenaeum Club was built in 1829 as the Bury Dispensary, which operated at this location until 1882. It is situated on a corner site and features symmetrical facades on both sides. The building is constructed of red brick and has two storeys. Each front has three sash windows with glazing bars, although there is no window above the arched central door facing Moss Street. Notable architectural details include a stone plinth, a first-floor sill-band, an entablature, and a pediment above the middle window on Knowsley Street, as well as an eaves cornice. The roof is covered with slate.
