Description

Rigby Cottages are a laithe house, now divided into two residences, dating from the early to mid-18th century, with later rear extensions added in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of dressed stone with quoins; the rear extensions are of rubble construction. The roof is covered in slate and concrete tiles. The front facade is two storeys and four bays wide. The first two bays feature four-light, single-chamfered-mullioned windows, with labels above the ground floor windows. The first-floor window in the second bay is a casement window. The remaining two bays have 20th-century casement windows and show evidence of original barn and byre entrances; these bays have a concrete tile roof. 20th-century doors provide access, and a 20th-century datestone marked "1760" sits above the door between the first and second bays. Gable end stacks are located on the left return and at the rear, along with a cross-axial stack.
