Description
Lea Gate Farmhouse is a Grade II* listed building, originally constructed around 1700. It is made of dressed stone with quoins and features a stone slate roof. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has five bays, with the third and fourth bays projecting under a gable. There is a continuous drip mould above the ground floor and the third to fifth bays of the first floor, and the gables are coped with kneelers.
On the ground floor, there are double-chamfered-mullioned windows with a configuration of 2-:3-:1-:2-:3 lights, along with a single round-headed light to the right of the fourth bay. The first floor has a similar arrangement with a 3-:1-:2-:3-:3-light window, while the window in the fourth bay features an ogee head. The entrance to the recessed porch in the fourth bay has a decorated lintel and a round opening on the return. The building has a cross-axial stack and a gable-end stack, and the rear includes later extensions and some mullioned windows.
Inside, the original front door is located behind a 20th-century door and features wide boards and ledges. The interior also includes chamfered beams and a cambered bressummer. The dog-leg stair has turned balusters, a close string, and square newels.
