Description

This is a school building, dating from 1833, and now used as a house. It was originally constructed to serve the model factory community established by the Ashworths of New Eagley Mill between 1835 and 1855. The building is constructed of rock-faced, coursed and squared stone, with a slate roof. It features a single-storey main range, recessed to the right, and an advanced gabled wing to the left, with a storey porch to its right. The gable of the advanced wing incorporates a large, round-headed, traceried two-light window with billet moulding along the string course. A round-arched entrance leads to the porch, which has a plain parapet over a billet-moulded string course. The windows in the main range have been renewed but are likely within original openings between buttresses. The building has end and rear wall stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
