Description
Grappenhall Rectory is a rectory built around 1830, featuring a stucco exterior and a grey slate roof in the Gothick style. The building has two storeys and five windows, with left and right wings that each have one bay and one slightly recessed bay, which were either built or altered in 1855, as indicated by drawings held by the rector. The porch is crenellated in the Gothick style, featuring a Tudor arch and corner pinnacles. At the back of the porch, there are part-glazed double doors beneath a Tudor-arched fan with a flowing pattern of cusped iron bars. Each side of the porch has a one-storey canted bay with Gothick pointed windows; the left bay has ornate iron cresting, while the right bay had its cresting removed for repairs in 1983. The upper windows are 2-light casements, each with 12 panes and margined, located above the porch and bay windows. The right wing and the upper storey of the left wing have 12-pane recessed sashes, although the lower left window has been replaced. Inside, the doors feature six raised and fielded panels, and there is a plain open-string dogleg staircase with stick balusters, a mahogany rail, and a curtail.
