Description
This is a pair of early 19th-century houses located on Laurel Bank in Grappenhall. The houses are built of smooth, rendered brick and have hipped roofs covered with graded grey slate. They are two storeys high with five windows each, although No. 2 has three. The windows are recessed sashes with 16 panes, the side panes being slightly narrower than the central ones. No. 2 features a replaced front door within a wooden doorcase of classical design, topped with an elliptical radial-bar fanlight. No. 4 has a replaced door within a plain, likely mid-20th-century, open porch made of rendered brick. To the right side of No. 2 are two 16-pane recessed sashes on the lower floor, and one on the upper floor; the other upper-floor window has been replaced. The interior of No. 2 includes six-panel doors to the main rooms and five-panel doors to the rooms at the rear, a dogleg staircase with stick balusters, a mahogany handrail and turned newel, and a brick cellar. The interior of No. 4 has not been inspected.
