Description
The memorial to the South Lancashire Regiment is located in Queen's Gardens, which occupy the center of Palmyra Square. The gardens were established in 1897, while the monument itself was created in 1907 by Drury. It features a large rough rock podium with a bronze plaque that lists the names of men who were killed in 1900, along with a relief depicting a mourning family. Atop the podium stands a bronze figure of a soldier holding field glasses and a rifle. The listed buildings in Palmyra Square, including Nos 9 to 21 (odd), the Museum and Art Gallery on Bold Street, No 10 on Egypt Street, Nos 3 to 13 (odd) on Springfield Street, and Nos 13 and 15 on Suez Street, form a group with this memorial.
