Description
The Tricorn Public House, formerly known as Hallwood under Northwich Road, is a Grade II* listed mansion built for Sir John Chesshyre around 1710, now operating as a public house. The building features brown brick and stone construction with a slate roof, and it is two storeys high with an attic and five bays, including a gabled design and a three-bay return. Notable architectural details include stone quoins of constant width, a floor band, and a stone pedimented doorcase with Doric pilasters and a six-panel door. The windows are recessed sash types with glazing bars, and there is a gable pediment that includes a window in the tympanum.
Inside, the property boasts a staircase with a cut and elaborately carved bracketed string, spiral turned balusters, and a moulded rail. There are fine oak doorcases featuring fluted pilasters, fielded panelling, and a pulvinated frieze, along with some original stone mantels.
