Description
The ice house, likely built in the mid-19th century, is located 400 meters west of the former Hale Hall. It is constructed of red brick and covered by an earth mound. The structure features a spherical chamber that is approximately 4 meters in diameter and is partly below ground level. Access to the chamber is through a short tunnel. The chamber is built in stretcher bond and has a small door opening at the inner end, which is framed by rebated stone blocks at the head and jambs. A stone step at the outer end of the tunnel indicates the original external entrance. This ice house was strategically built near a pond, allowing for the collection of ice during the winter months.
