Description

Laurel House, originally a farmhouse, dates to the early 18th century and has undergone modifications in the late 18th and 20th centuries. It is now divided into two separate dwellings, No. 103 and No. 105. The building is constructed of English bond orange brick on a stone plinth, with areas of pebble-dashed rubble stone. It has a Welsh slate roof and three brick chimneys, one on the central ridge. The building has a single-pile plan, and presents a four-bay facade with two and three storeys. The projecting gable on the left-hand end is now a separate house and was likely a parlour wing of an earlier farmhouse. A board door leads to a rock-cut cellar, and the windows are casements with glazing bars. The facade features a plain brick band at the first floor level, and a stepped band at the second floor level. Modern aluminum windows and a central glazed door are set beneath flat, gauged and rubbed brick heads, with the bands continuing to the sides.

The interior of No. 103 follows a two-room plan, with the main room featuring a heavy ceiling beam and exposed joists. No. 105 has three rooms on each floor. An ashlar stack runs through the middle of the house, alongside 20th-century fireplaces. The interior also contains slender timber-framed partition walls and exposed ceiling beams and joists. A reused twisted baluster staircase leads to the first floor, and there is a three-board door in the top storey where queen post roof trusses are visible.
