2/60 Red Lion.

GV II

Formerly inn, now public house: mid C18 with mid C19 alterations. Chipped and rendered red brick. Welsh slate roof, hipped at one end. 2 brick chimneys. Developed from single-pile to L-shaped plan. 3-storey, nearly symmetrical 3-bay front. Plastered plinth, plain pilaster and sill bands at 1st floor. Ground storey has a 3-light wooden casement with glazing bars, and a larger window with simple wooden architraves. Central plain doorcase with 6-panelled door (2 glazed). Above are flush 12 and 6-pane sashes with heavy glazing bars in simple architraves. Interior: has inglenook fireplace in lounge bar, and exposed ceiling beams. Staircase from 1st to 2nd floor has column newels and balusters, the landing has a crisscross balustrade (see Hamilton House (q.v.) opposite). Some C19 4 and 6-panelled pine doors.
