Description
The Red Lion is a former inn, now a public house, dating from the mid-18th century with alterations from the mid-19th century. It features chipped and rendered red brick and has a hipped Welsh slate roof at one end, along with two brick chimneys. The building has evolved from a single-pile to an L-shaped plan and stands three stories tall with a nearly symmetrical three-bay front. The ground floor includes a three-light wooden casement window with glazing bars and a larger window with simple wooden architraves. The central entrance has a plain doorcase with a six-panelled door, two of which are glazed. Above, there are flush twelve and six-pane sash windows with heavy glazing bars set in simple architraves. Inside, the lounge bar features an inglenook fireplace and exposed ceiling beams. The staircase from the first to the second floor has column newels and balusters, while the landing boasts a crisscross balustrade. There are also some 19th-century four and six-panelled pine doors.
