Description

Corner House is an early to mid-18th century farmhouse, later divided into two private dwellings. It was altered in the early 19th century. The ground floor is of rendered rubble, with a narrow hand-made brick layer above, in an irregular English garden wall bond. The roof is covered in Welsh slate, with 19th-century brick chimney stacks. The building is in an L-shape, comprising a main block with a wing set at right angles to the rear on the right side.

The main block is three storeys high and has three bays, with a plinth and flush rendered quoins. The central 4-panel door, leading to No. 1, has a fanlight within an open-pedimented doorcase. 19th-century window openings have projecting stone sills, flanked by blocked original openings. The ground floor has replaced sashes, the first floor has 16-pane sashes, and the second floor has smaller 9-pane sashes. The eaves were raised in the 19th century above a projecting brick course. The steeply pitched roof has transverse end stacks. A small, blocked diamond-shaped opening, potentially a closet window, is visible on the first floor of the right return.

The three-storey, one-bay rear wing has a 19th-century canted bay window and a replaced door (leading to No. 2) on the ground floor, with replaced sashes above and a steeply pitched roof with an end stack. There is a two-storey, four-bay outshut at the rear left of the main block.

The interior of No. 2 has an early 19th-century open-well staircase with late 19th-century balusters and handrail. A former stable, now a house (No. 3), is located at the rear of the wing and has been altered; it is not of special interest.
