Description
This semi-derelict building, located at the corner of Whitchurch Road and Rowton Lane, is part of a farmhouse that is now unused and likely dates back to the early 17th century. It is constructed of red sandstone rubble with a later brick wall on the north side. The building features a thatched roof that has been covered with corrugated iron. It is a single-storey structure with a one-bay east front and has a small square window positioned towards the right side. Inside, the building has replaced purlins and cleft rafters.
Local tradition holds that this building was used as a hospital for the wounded following the battle of Rowton Moor in 1645, which took place in the surrounding fields. The later brick farmhouse that was once attached to it was demolished in the 1950s.
