Description

Victoria Mill is a former steam-powered corn mill located on the canalside, now used as a shop and storage space. It was built in the early to mid-19th century, with an addition from the mid-19th century. The mill is constructed of orange brick in English garden wall bond and features a Welsh slate roof. At the southeast corner, there is a stump of a large brick chimney. The building has three stories and an attic, with a four-bay front. A dentil brick cornice runs along the top. The second bay projects under a gable and contains a board door leading to a loading bay on each floor, with a pulley arm above the uppermost door. The bays on either side have semi-circular headed small-pane iron casements, with three central panes that are hinged. The right end bay is lower and has a corrugated iron roof, with simpler small-pane windows. In the right gable, there are bays designed for loading canal boats directly. Inside, cast iron columns and I-beams support the floors, but no machinery remains except for one shoot. There are large corrugated iron additions at the rear, which are not of special interest.
