Description
No 1 Claypits Lane is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with remodelling from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of orange brick in English garden wall bond and features a Welsh slate roof with three brick chimneys. The building has a rectangular plan and is three stories high with a three-bay front. The end bays have tripartite sash windows with glazing bars, set under flat wedged stone heads and with stone sills. The top storey contains 16-pane sashes, one of which is false. The central bay features a wooden doorcase with a triangular pediment and marginal panels, housing a five-panelled door with raised fields. The upper storey has similar windows. The gables have flat stone coping and display some stone quoining. The interior has not been inspected, but a plain baluster stair is visible. The provisional list notes some early doors, and an inscribed stone indicating the site of a chapel is reported to be in the cellar.
