Description
The range of farm buildings at Rowton Lane Farm is an L-shaped structure dating from the late 18th century. It is built of orange brick in English garden wall bond and features a Welsh slate roof. The north front of the south range is two stories high and has five bays, accented by a brick dentil cornice. There are five doorways leading to shippons and feeding passages, each with rebated basket arched heads and boarded doors. Above these doorways are two circular pitch holes with stone sills and some X-shaped ventilation patterns.
The west front of the east range includes an arcade of three tall semi-circular arches, although part of it is now blocked. One of these arches contains a pair of studded oak doors that were originally from a pub in Christleton. The right two bays of this range serve as another shippon. The rear of the east range features a continuous arcade of tall semi-circular arches, which have been blocked with decorative ventilation patterns.
