Roadside wall and gatepiers and the west terrace walls at Utkinton Hall

Garden walls and gatepiers: c1700 for Sir John Crewe with C20 additions. Tooled ashlar sandstone raised with drystone rubble walling. Right hand end stands c2.5 high and has a chamfered plinth and a cyma-moulded coping. Decoratively moulded coping to rubble portion. At left hand end wall stands c0.8m. At the centre are a pair of tall gatepiers. These have a moulded plinth on a tall stone base and Flemish bond brick bodies framed in stone with beading on the arrises. Heavily moulded cornice to capstones with ball. finials. To the inside are stone jambs surmounted by consoles. Between is a low blocking wall of stone-coped brick of an early date. The stone wall turns to form a revetmenL wall to the west terrace in front of the house. The terrace carries a stone-coped brick wall with a narrow gateway.
