Description

Higher Farmhouse is an early 19th-century brick farmhouse situated on Barton Road in Barton. Constructed of brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, it features pale brick headers and a grey slate roof with projecting gable chimneys. The design is symmetrical, with two storeys and three windows. The front door is of six flush panels with reeded margins, topped by a rectangular fanlight and a simple pediment supported by consoles. The lower-floor windows are 12-pane recessed sash windows with rusticated keystone lintels and projecting stone sills. Upper-floor windows are 6-pane recessed sash windows with similar lintels and sills. Internally, the doors are composed of three boards and six fielded panels. While the ceiling heights reflect Georgian design principles, rooms on both storeys to the right of the hall retain chamfered oak main beams with run-out stops.
