Description
Barton Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century or earlier. The internal structure features oak framing, while the external walls are covered in late 18th-century brick, arranged in a brown Flemish bond with pale headers on the front and gable ends. The building has a steep grey slate roof and consists of two storeys plus attics, with four windows. There is a replaced door located under a gabled open porch supported by shaped brackets. The windows include replaced cross-casements; the upper storey and the left two windows on the lower storey are small-pane replacements from the late 20th century, while the right two lower storey windows, which have six panes, are likely from the 19th century. The gables are coped and feature cyma footstones, with gable chimneys and one ridge chimney. At the rear, there is a slate-roofed brick lean-to extension, probably from the 19th century. Above the back door, one panel of the oak frame is exposed.
Inside, the farmhouse has substantial oak framing and beams. There is an interesting oak mullioned window with a shaped apron located between the main block and the rear extension.
